Tactile signs create a sense of security for the visually impaired and people with low vision

A tactile sign combines raised text and symbols with Braille – what many call blind script or braille, and which sometimes also goes by the name braille script. This combination enables both visually impaired people and those with reduced vision to read the sign with their fingers, not just with their eyes. We print and process every tactile sign in our own production facility in Motala, ensuring the relief is positioned with exact precision.

We choose materials, contrast, and fonts based on where the sign will be placed and the distance from which the visitor will read it. A clear tactile sign helps you create an environment where everyone can find their way around on their own, without having to ask for directions to the restroom, conference room, or exit.

Frequently asked questions about tactile signs

What is a tactile sign?

A tactile sign has raised text, symbols, and often Braille that can be felt with the fingers. The sign makes it possible for the visually impaired and people with low vision to read the content with their hands instead of their sight, even in poor light.

Where should a tactile sign be placed?

Mount the sign approximately 1400–1600 mm above the floor, with the center point at the eye level of a seated person. Place it 140–160 mm from the door frame on the handle side, so that the visitor can find the sign by following the wall with their hand.

Do tactile signs have to have Braille?

In public areas, the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning's regulations on easily remediated obstacles usually require both raised text and Braille. We help you determine which combination suits your business and which spaces the requirement applies to.

Which premises need tactile signs?

You need tactile signs in premises open to the public, such as offices, healthcare facilities, schools, and shops. The requirement applies in particular to door signs, elevators, and restrooms, where visitors must be able to orient themselves without assistance.

How much do tactile signs cost and how do I order?

The price depends on the material, size and number of signs, so we will provide a quote based on your dimensions and requests. We will guide you through the entire process, from material selection and sample layout to production and delivery throughout Sweden.
